Initial Consultation

Before your surgery, an initial consultation with Dr. Golani is necessary. This consultation is a vital part of the surgical process. During this meeting, Dr. Golani will discuss your medical and family history, symptoms, and test results. A medical examination and additional tests may also be required to confirm your diagnosis.

Once your condition has been diagnosed, Dr. Golani will discuss a surgical plan with you. This discussion will include the surgical options available to you, as well as the benefits, risks, and recovery process relevant to your situation.

You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions during this consultation.

Please be aware that there is a fee for this consultation. However, if you have a valid referral from a GP or specialist, you may be eligible for a partial Medicare rebate. It's important to note that private health insurance does not cover the costs of consultations outside of the hospital.

During your consultation, you will also have the opportunity to choose your Hospital.

After the initial consultation, you will receive a quote for the surgery. This quote will be based on the medical services that were diagnosed and discussed during your consultation.

Understanding Your Surgery Costs: Private Health Insurance vs. Public Hospital

To assist you in making an informed decision about your surgery, we've provided some information about public and private hospitals.

Public Patient in a Public Hospital

Dr. Golani has admitting privileges at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, a major metropolitan hospital by NSW Health. Care in public hospitals is provided free of charge to anyone with a Medicare card.

If you choose Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital for your elective surgery, you will be placed on an Elective Surgery Waitlist. Here are some key points about public hospitals:

  • There may be a waiting period for surgery in a public hospital. This typically ranges from a few months and should not exceed 365 days.
  • Your surgery at Hornsby Hospital will be supervised by Dr. Golani, with assistance from trainees, including trainee anaesthetists and surgical assistants.
  • Depending on their skill level, surgical trainees may be permitted to perform certain parts or the entire procedure.
  • Trainees will also be involved in your post-operative care, ensuring comprehensive attention.
  • As a public patient, you won't receive an invoice for your surgery. However, there is a fee for your post-operative visit four weeks after the surgery.
  • Please be aware that your surgery could potentially be cancelled due to circumstances such as the presence of more urgent patients, a shortage of beds, or limited operating theatre availability. If such a situation arises, we will make every effort to reschedule your surgery.

Privately Insured Patients

As a privately insured patient, you can choose from a range of top private hospitals in Sydney, including Sydney Adventist Hospital, Wahroonga, The Mater Hospital, North Sydney, Norwest Private Hospital, Bella Vista. Private patients enjoy the following benefits:
