We understand that the prospect of surgery and its costs may seem daunting so here is some information to explain your costs. It is important to note that we cannot provide detailed information on costing until after your initial consultation with Dr Golani.
Before your surgery, an initial consultation with Dr. Golani is necessary. This consultation is a vital part of the surgical process. During this meeting, Dr. Golani will discuss your medical and family history, symptoms, and test results. A medical examination and additional tests may also be required to confirm your diagnosis.
Once your condition has been diagnosed, Dr. Golani will discuss a surgical plan with you. This discussion will include the surgical options available to you, as well as the benefits, risks, and recovery process relevant to your situation.
You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions during this consultation.
Please be aware that there is a fee for this consultation. However, if you have a valid referral from a GP or specialist, you may be eligible for a partial Medicare rebate. It's important to note that private health insurance does not cover the costs of consultations outside of the hospital.
During your consultation, you will also have the opportunity to choose your Hospital.
After the initial consultation, you will receive a quote for the surgery. This quote will be based on the medical services that were diagnosed and discussed during your consultation.

To assist you in making an informed decision about your surgery, we've provided some information about public and private hospitals.
Dr. Golani has admitting privileges at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, a major metropolitan hospital by NSW Health. Care in public hospitals is provided free of charge to anyone with a Medicare card.
If you choose Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital for your elective surgery, you will be placed on an Elective Surgery Waitlist. Here are some key points about public hospitals:
As a privately insured patient, you can choose from a range of top private hospitals in Sydney, including Sydney Adventist Hospital, Wahroonga, The Mater Hospital, North Sydney, Norwest Private Hospital, Bella Vista. Private patients enjoy the following benefits:
Before your surgery, you will receive a quotation detailing Dr. Golani's fees. These fees are set at or below the rate recommended by the Australian Medical Association (AMA). The quotation will also explain your out-of-pocket expenses (gap payment) for the surgery.
In addition to Dr. Golani's fees, you will also need to cover the costs of the surgical team, which includes the Anaesthetist and, if required, a Surgical Assistant (20% of the surgeon's fees).
You may also need to pay a Hospital Excess to your Health Insurance provider during your hospital admission.
If you don't have insurance for your surgery, you have the option to join a waitlist for surgery in a public hospital under the supervision of Dr. Golani.
Alternatively, if you prefer to have your surgery done privately by Dr. Golani, we can assist in obtaining quotations for the hospital of your choice as an uninsured patient. Please note that hospital costs will constitute the largest portion of the surgery costs. We will strive to help you minimise your costs to ensure you receive the care you need.
Before your surgery, you will receive a quotation detailing Dr. Golani's fees, which are set at or below the rate recommended by the Australian Medical Association (AMA). If you are visiting from overseas, please check with your health insurer about your coverage for out-of-hospital consultations. You may be eligible for a rebate for consultations with Dr. Golani.
You can also verify elective hospital admissions with your health insurer prior to surgery. This will require more information on the medical services required and documentation from Dr. Golani for approval for surgery.
A quotation will be provided prior to surgery explaining the surgeon's fees. Dr Golani's fees are set at the rate or below recommended by the Australian Medical Association (AMA). Additional to the surgeon's fees you will need to pay for the fees of the surgical team which includes the Anaesthetist and Surgical Assistant (this is 20% of the surgeon's fees and required in major procedures).
Along with the expense described above, during your admission, there may be additional charges for your care, generally billed by the hospital. Please check with your health insurance provider about your coverage for these services, which may include pathology, x-rays/scans, and consultations from other medical providers.
Since April 2020, insurance has been classified into tiers. Dr. Golani's surgeries are all covered by the minimum Bronze tier insurance. If you currently have Basic cover, we encourage you to consider switching to Bronze (or higher tier cover) for more comprehensive future coverage.
For more information on insurance tiers, you can visit the PrivateHealth.gov.au site.
Your private health insurance covers most of your hospital costs, depending on your level of cover. A top cover gives you access to the widest range of procedures and medical conditions, but it does not affect how your doctors are paid for their services.
For more information about health insurance tiers and what they cover, please visit the PrivateHealth.gov.au site. Please note, Dr Golani's procedures are eligible for hospital cover even by bronze tier insurance.
